Bishop’s House Open Garden – Sunday 2nd June

CPRE Norfolk is thrilled that the Bishop of Norwich has allowed us to host an open day in his gardens on Sunday 2nd June. Come and join us for a delightful day in the sun!

As well as the chance to explore the stunning gardens and mingle with fellow nature enthusiasts, CPRE Norfolk volunteers and trustees will be hosting some informative and enlightening stands and talks throughout the afternoon on a variety of topics. There may be some musical interludes as well as stalls, activities and refreshments with seating in the gardens available.

The gardens will be open from 1pm – 4.30pm with the last admittance at 4.00pm.

Admission is FREE for members of CPRE Norfolk on production of a valid membership card and just £5 for adult non-members. Accompanied children under 16 years and wheelchair users are also free. Assistance Dogs only.

About the Bishop’s House Garden

The historic, 900-year-old gardens are part of the private residence of the Bishop of Norwich, Graham Usher, who has strong ecological interests as the lead Bishop of the Environment in the Church of England.

The organically run garden, which is more than 4 acres in size, features long herbaceous borders, woodland and jungle walks, a large perennial wildflower labyrinth and fruit orchard.

The blossoms in the orchard are amongst some of the many flowers foraged by the Bishop’s bees. The extensive shrubberies contain many rare and unusual plants, among these being a Hebe planted from a sprig taken from Queen Victoria’s wedding bouquet in 1840.

There is also a kitchen garden, a bamboo walk and a popular plant sales area all within the 600 year old flint boundary walls.
