Localised flooding

In recent years, flooding has become a growing issue in Norfolk, affecting many residents and businesses. Some may experience only minor inconveniences, but for those whose homes or businesses have been flooded, the experience can be costly, disruptive, and distressing.

Norfolk’s unique geography, topography, farming practices, and areas of development make the county particularly vulnerable to flooding. This means we face specific challenges requiring a coordinated response from multiple organisations, including parish councils.

Parish councils, in partnership with local landowners, have a crucial role to play in reducing the likelihood and impact of flooding.

By building their knowledge base about flood risks in their area, their causes, and possible solutions, parish councils can play an important role in addressing flooding. This knowledge allows them to better respond to planning applications, identify suitable interventions, and have the evidence to support larger infrastructure and environmental improvements.

Speakers at CPRE Norfolk's Flood Conference

Flood management conference

In May 2024, CPRE Norfolk proudly hosted a ground-breaking conference dedicated to exploring solutions to localised flooding problems faced by our parish councils.

The conference brought together experts, local leaders, and community members in a collective effort to address one of Norfolk’s most pressing environmental challenges.

CPRE Norfolk also produced a flooding toolkit to inform and inspire communities to take action and work together to create a safer, more resilient Norfolk.
